Everyday Care
Vacuum your rug regularly on a low-suction, no-beater-bar setting to remove dust and grit before it works into the fibers. Aim for a light pass once a week, more often in high-traffic areas. For long-pile or shaggy rugs (like Beni Ourain or Azilal styles), skip the fringe — shake or gently beat the rug outside instead so you don't pull the tassels loose.
Spills & Spot Cleaning
Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — never rub, as this pushes the stain deeper into the wool and can distort the pile. For stubborn spots, dab (don't soak) with a little mild, pH-neutral soap diluted in cold water, working from the outside of the stain inward, then blot dry. Avoid hot water and bleach-based cleaners; wool is a natural protein fiber and can discolor or weaken under harsh chemicals.
Sunlight & Rotation
Natural dyes are gorgeous but can fade with prolonged direct sunlight. Rotate your rug 180° every 3–6 months so wear and light exposure stay even across the piece — this matters most for rugs placed near windows or in busy hallways and entryways.
Professional Cleaning
We recommend a professional wool-rug cleaning every 12–18 months, depending on foot traffic and whether you have pets. Choose a cleaner experienced with hand-knotted wool rugs, and avoid steam cleaning, dry-cleaning solvents, or harsh chemical treatments — they can damage natural fibers and loosen hand-tied knots.
Storage
If you need to store your rug, clean it first, then roll it — never fold, since folding creases the foundation and can crack the fibers over time. Roll with the pile facing inward, wrap it in breathable cotton or muslin (not plastic, which traps moisture), and keep it somewhere dry, dark, and moth-free.
